A Little Peek At Where I Have Been Staying In Dubai

Whilst the Nuffnang Bloggerati team have been in Dubai, we have been split up amongst a few of the different hotels. It's been a fabulous way for us to experience not just where we are staying but the places that our blog buddies are staying at too.

Best of all worlds I guess you could say.

I have been based at the sumptuous Shangri La Hotel which is located a mere 15 minutes from the airport, smack bang in the middle of Downtown Dubai.

The views from this 47 story building are to die for. I'm on the 37th floor with a birds eye view of The Burj Khalifa and The Dubai Mall. On the other side of the building are sweeping views of the Arabian Sea, and the Burj Arab and The Palace Downtown Hotel.

Not particularly good for anyone who suffers from vertigo I guess, but if vertigo was my nemesis then I would force myself to suck it up and soak up the incredible vista and the gorgeous rooms.

I have a soft spot for the Shangri La hotel group.

My hubby and I spent our wedding night in the Sydney Shangri La and I remember being in complete awe of how gorgeous that place was.

The Shangri La Dubai certainly holds it's own.

This hotel is the perfect base for visitors to Dubai whether you are are family holidayers, honeymooners, or business execs with or without your family.

Seriously I would recommend it to everyone.

Tonight I even had the pleasure of meeting a family who have been in residence in one of the hotel's 127 serviced apartments since they moved to Dubai from California 3 months ago. Not a bad way to ease yourself into life in a new country.

There are conference facilities, ball rooms, night clubs and even childminding services on site... perfect if you want to take some time out for yourself at one of the 7 restaurants and bars or the stunning health club and spa.

There are two swimming pools here at the hotel as well as the plunge pools in the spa and health club. The main pool and deck area is like some kind of Arabian Oasis and I am kicking myself that I didn't manage to spend more time there because ahh ... well LOOK at it!

Now, let's just talk about food for a minute shall we because ummm YUM!

It is pretty darn special here.

I treated myself to a room service dinner tonight which was absolutely divine, but it is the breakfast buffet that has won me over.

I mean, let's face it... I'm sure many of us base our opinion of a hotel on the quality of the breakfast buffet and ah.. take a look for yourself and see why I give the breakfast at The Shangri La Dubai the two thumbs up.

Oh and just for the record, I'd totally give it more than two if I had a couple of extra thumbs.

But whilst the rooms and restaurants, food and facilities are out of this world, it's the staff here that have knocked it out of the ball park. I love them! They are that gorgeous and helpful.

I love that my room attendant Mahendra calls me 'Miss Sonia' and leaves me fresh towels in the shape of bunny rabbits.

I love that he noticed that I prefer bananas and grapes over apples so leaves me an extra big bunch of both in the mornings.

I love that no matter who you talk to or who you ask for something, NOTHING is a problem, not even in the slightest.

And I love that when one of the beautiful bar staff saw me having a weepy moment in the bar the other day, he handed me a packet of tissues and an extra generous pour of gin in my Gin and Tonic.

THAT'S service.

THAT'S what makes me remember a hotel fondly and THAT'S what sets the bar for anywhere else I will ever stay at in future.

Most importantly THAT's what makes me want to recommend a hotel to everyone else and makes me want to come back again... and again.

I still have loads more to tell you about Dubai, including our incredible Hot Air Ballooning 'sporty' (aka crash landing) today. But for now, I have a bowl of nuts and a G&T waiting for me... so Masalamah (goodbye) for now.
