Mornings Have Spoken

I've been trying to get up a little earlier lately which goes completely against everything my body has been trained to do throughout my entire life.

I'm not a morning person by nature, I was born more of a 'don't speak to me until after 10' kind of gal.

I get the part where some like to get up and get a head start on the day, but then that's why I stay up super late at night and get everything ready for the next day. Before my head is allowed to hit the pillow, the lunch boxes are packed in the fridge, books and notes are located and signed and bags, shoes and uniforms are usually lined up and ready to go. Theoretically I get an even bigger head start with my routine than the early to bed and early to rise crew.

But it seems that everywhere I turn lately people have been waxing lyrical about the beauty of mornings and I had become so intoxicated by all the romantic talk of dawn that I was left wondering if I really was missing the best part of the day by repeatedly pegging anything I can find within reach at the clock in order to silence the incessant beeping of the alarm.

And so I reluctantly decided to check it out for myself.

For the past few weeks I've been dragging myself out of bed earlier than ever before, as ready as one could ever expect me to be at that time of the day to embrace this magical hour that everyone raves about.

And hey guess what - you guys are soooo right.

I mean what's not to love about the deafening sound of the minor birds as they ferociously dive bomb the poor little early worms, stepping on the slugs that are all over the back deck and the dogs mauling at my legs as they try to get out the door to relieve their bladder and launch an attack on the noisy bloody minors?

How could any parent resist the pleasure of dragging sleeping children by their ankles out of their cosy beds, and the fun to be had whilst hunting down the missing half of a pair of school shoes that WERE there only the night before when I lined them up all ready for the morning.

It would be totally wrong of me to not mention the adorable way in which children add to the early morning ambiance with the heart warming sound of their fighting over who's turn it is to feed the animals or unpack the dishwasher and the high pitched meltdown over the hard nubby bits in the ends of their socks.

I had a friend tell me that her and her husband like to use those early hours for sex and I was all "Really? REALLY???" Cause yep, I find morning breathe and a desperate need to pee SUCH a turn on too!

The dogs have the right idea in our house. They get up, take a pee, bark at the birds, growl at the paper guy and then find a quiet spot and go back to sleep.

Yep yep yep -  mornings are pretty darn special. Can't believe I ever thought about sleeping through this wonderful time of the day!.

In case my sarcasm didn't get a chance to smack you in the face can I just go on the record to say "been there, done that, I'm going back to bed now"

Are you a morning person? What time do you go to bed and get up?
Am I missing something here with this whole morning thing?
